Auto-Ignition Resistance Testing
From hot components to hot exhaust, portable generators can produce significant heat, so flame retardance is essential for any running cover. GenTent canopies are made from marine grade, vinyl coated polyester that was specifically chosen for its flame-retardant properties.
What the flame resistance testing showed
Independent testing by accredited laboratory Vartest evaluated the GenTent canopy material under the NFPA 701 standard, which is the industry benchmark for flame resistance in textiles. The material passed the test with no sustained ignition. Flames extinguished immediately, there was no dripping or burning material, and the fabric did not spread when exposed to a flame source.
GenTent hardware components were also independently tested for flammability under the UL 94 standard for plastics. All such components across both universal and inverter systems achieved the highest rating, UL 94 V-0, meaning they self-extinguish and do not continue burning when exposed to flame. GenTent’s new Universal Clamp systems use steel and aluminum parts, which are naturally nonflammable.
The bottom line:
GenTent is built with certified flame-resistant materials from canopy to hardware. Independent testing confirms that GenTent materials are safer around hot, running generators.
In short: GenTent is engineered to self-extinguish when exposed to high-heat.
